The Stray Dog Roleplay

It is said that somewhere out there lies a spooky rural village that is always dark and misty, whether it be nighttime or not. Surrounded by dusty roads and deserted fields, this village is home to all manner of creatures who must find a unique way of living to make their way in their home and find successful survival. Welcome to the Tale of the Serenity Village Dogs.

This is a unique idea of mine that has so far been very successful among us Free Spirits. Here any pack member is welcome to jump in and become part of the Tale, navigating through the dark alleyways of Serenity Village as stray dogs and participating in the constant struggle to survive. Stay solo, find a friend or two and live your life, or form a pack and experience the joys and pains of life and death; there's so much to do here! This RP is known to be pretty slow, though its rich descriptions and actions make up for the lack of excitement; however you will find times when the roleplay turns dark and tense. Plots become twisted and lengthened, strategies are fooled and shunned, and emotions rise and fall, relationships form and break, excitement and nervousness dances in and out of the action; it's all here in the Stray Dog Roleplay.

Rules

₪ Don't go off-topic. Staying comfortably on-topic and only posting to roleplay (little messages in '()' would be fine, but don't over-do it) keeps the RP what it is intended to be.
₪ Free Spirits are only allowed to roleplay as stray dogs here. They may not have more than one character and must roleplay consistently with their own 'charrie'. Thus, they may not roleplay for another RPer (such as "Bites the dog and it yelps and jumps back); they may roleplay for them in the sense of physically moving them (such as "Lunges forth and knocks the dog down, pinning it"). Also, you may roleplay for a non-talking character (e.g., prey such as mice or rabbits, like "chases after the rabbit and it makes a big turn", or other animals such as coyotes or foxes, like "sees a coyote run past; it eyes her, and then darts into the trees"), as long as it doesn't take a huge or long-lasting role in the story.
₪ Try to stay within Serenity Village; wandering away can cause confusion as to the whereabouts of the roleplayers.
₪ Please don't roleplay here in first person; try to keep it third person (such as "she walks to the forest" rather than "I walk to the forest"), as it helps avoid confusion and makes things easier to read.
₪ This isn't completely necessary, though it would be nice if Stray Dog RPers could keep their roleplay in present tense rather than past tense (such as "she walks to the forest" rather than "she walked to the forest"). It can keep things running more smoothly and makes things feel more consistent and upbeat.
₪ Keep things realistic. That means absolutely no fantasy items, no powerplaying, no godmode, etc. Fight/play/travel/etc. like your character would do in real life, not as you might see it in your mind; remember the breed of your character and also remember that you are not a person and can't do human things (such as hugging another - word it so that you are displaying the emotion without breaking the rule).
₪ Remember, if you have an in-roleplay fight with another Free Spirit, all feelings are to be kept to the roleplay only. Since this is not pack-related, and there is no reason to hold a grudge on a packmate just because of a make-believe quarrel, remember to keep the negative emotions to the characters.

About the Stray Dog Roleplay

This roleplay is centered around domestic dogs that have strayed at some point in their lives and begun to live next-to-wild lives in and just around a small, spooky town called, quite ironically, the Serenity Village. The dogs' goal in life is to conquer hunger, thirst, injuries, and other troubles; to endure the hardships they sometimes face; and to ultimately survive and thrive as best as they can.

Serenity Village is an odd place. It is made up of wooden and stone houses that form a ragged circle, with cemented paths between. Many have dumpsters and scraps, fresh and old, that the stray dogs can make use out of. There are many nooks and crannies, niches and crevices in which the dogs can make temporary dens out of, just for a night or two; the town always seems to be dark and foggy, even in the daytime, which makes it all the creepier at night; however the dogs don't often seem to mind, with their fairly sharp eyes and very sharp noses. A cold and murky brook lies to the western side of town, hidden behind a large house; a dark, unsuspecting forest is in the north-eastern corner of the village; and to the north-western side, a rickety wooden fence bars the way to the dusty road which speeds past the village. Beyond that is a dark grassy plain which no one has ever seemed to explore, the likes of which no one has had the courage to explore. No one has ever discovered what eerie things lie there.

The most recent plots have included not only the struggle to survive, but the tough struggle to create positive relationships with the other dogs without starting fights. Attempts to find proper food and shelter have been especially difficult recently as well, causing dogs to become more irritable and therefore making skirmishes more likely. Such a world can be very difficult to survive in.

How to Join In

It's quite easy to join in with the action. Simply go to the 'Random Roleplay Bios' subforum and create a dog character (that follows the rules) and a biography for him/her; make sure it includes the fact that it's for the Stray Dog Roleplay in the title; then, make a first roleplaying post (perhaps with a little '()' message to tell the others you've joined in), starting off your new life here, leaving the location of your history; for example, if your charrie once lived in a home, you could RP leaving it. And then you should be all set, with your name as a current RPer here on the first post!

(Hope I can jump in with Rusty. I might not be a great RP starter though xDD. I havn't really rp'd in the present tense before hope i get it right c:
Also, For a rule how about no signatures present for RP. As they can take up quite a bit of space that could be used instead for RP? They can be disabled under options.)

Tiny, almost grey droplets splashed onto the old roofs, trickling down rusted gutters and onto the pavement surface. Where Rusty a 5 year old female irish wolfhound lapped up.
She looks up around her, eerie as usual. Thunder boomed overhead. The female dog had not yet seen many other strays in days, if not weeks. Rusty spots that same blue collar she tore of the second she got here. Rusty yawns and crawls, almost squeezing her way into her small den, not as big as she liked. But she would soon find another a couple of days later.

(Let's see how I do with Nikkie, I'm new to present tense, so I'll try to see if my style can be adjusted)

Nikkie glances around her surroundings, the thunder crackling just above her head, the partner in crime to lightning. What was worse? She don't know. With frail steps she walks, just searching for something to get her jaws around. Something scurries past her paws, and in the next second, ends up in her jaws. Her first food in weeks, and Nikkie wastes no time in consuming it, the mouse who's life ended in the paws of a fighter. Newly found energy comes to the female, and she stands, walking to the shelter of a tree, where no rain falls. Slowly, her blue eyes vanish from the world, and all that remains is her sleeping figure, her stomach rising and falling to meet the rain.

[Darkfur]

Rusty shuddered in her sleep, soon awoke by the crack of lightning. She gets up looking around her, Rusty smells another dog, stray perhaps? Perplexed, the female dog walks along. Following the scent intently.
Soon she arrives to see the dog. It was smaller than her, from what she could tell. Rusty could see that this female was sleeping, deciding not to bother them she walks off in search of others.

Cobalt, eyes pensive, pauses on the top of a rickety platform formed by an array of woods and blocks. His wet nose probed the air, trying to figure out this new scent. There are other dogs nearby, he thought, not very keen on the idea of others inhabiting this world he thought was his own to explore. Jumping down from his raised stage, which toppled as his hefty hind legs bounded away from it, Cobalt enters a disused warehouse with boarded up windows. The structure was uneven; half of it was only held up by exposed scaffolding. He ventures into a dark crevice, sheltered by an overhanging piece of wood. It was a damp and decaying area, however it would suffice for the night. He still pondered on the prospect other souls out there - would they be a threat and competition for food, or would they offer strength in numbers?

[Darkfur]

Rusty soon caught whiff of another stray, with a swift movement she turns her head towards the scents direction. Rusty trotted fairly fast, her long legs giving her this ability she treasured. Rusty soon beheld what looked like an old warehouse. The unstable, intimidating structure looked like it had suffered the worst of weather. The windows boarded tight she only sought a small crack from which one could enter. She peers through, looking at the satanic darkness this warehouse held on to.
The silence seemed menacing , Rusty soon enters the warehouse. Quickly her head darts about for danger. The damp, almost mossy smell envelops her nostrils. The warehouse creaks, threatening to collapse upon her, and any other strays inside. Her tail held steady, her dark eyes devouring every detail of the warehouse.
"Anyone there?" Her voice more rough than she intends. She pauses, waiting for a reply.

[Guest]

Sniffs around. See a rabbit. Run after and kill it. (Sorry, no inspiration)

[Atropine]

The sudden voice took Cobalt by surprise; he flinched heavily, causing the wood which lay above him to shift and collapse on his tail. He lets out a irritated grunt, rising clumsily and searching for the intruder through the darkness. He was defensive and cautious - he had never encountered another dog before, excluding his previous family. Cobalt takes a few cautious steps forward, peering into the black abyss. He pauses abruptly, spotting a figure in the darkness - from whom the voice came from. He did not speak; he wasn't one for introductions.

[Darkfur]

Rusty jolted. Looking up she spotted the figure. "Hi" She said, cautiously. "My name's Rusty, how 'bout you?".
Her tail twitches slightly, her curiosity piqued. She could already tell that this stray was male. Her eyes now had accustomed to the darkness. Rusty could see the stray more clearly now.

[Atropine]

Cobalt watches the strange dog in front of him - she didn't seem like much of a threat, however he still kept up a strong guard. "Cobalt," he says briefly in answer to her question, beginning to realise that the dog (whom he now knew as Rusty) meant no harm. He shifted a little, feeling a cold draft escape through the shuttered windows which ruffled his fur. "What are you doing in this village?" His question, though a bit immediate, was meaningfully said - he wasn't used to seeing another dog around here, and he was surprised to see and smell more dogs like himself.

(Thanks for jumping in, everyone! ^^ Also Dostluk, in order to start roleplaying, please come up with a character and a bio for him/her, thanks! And also, those who don't do well with present tense don't have to use it if it bothers them too much, it just helps things stay on the same pace. ;]

Lydda stands near the edge of the forest, her fur blowing gently in the wind. Feeling depressed as usual, she moves forward and crawls around the edge of a fence, where she finds some trash cans outside a house. Cautiously, she digs out a half-eaten chicken drumstick and scurries back around the fence with it in her mouth. She quickly chews most of the meat off and swallows it whole, her aching stomach desperate for food. Panting in the rain that begins to fall harder, she sets the bone down and curls up in as small a ball as possible, watching the dark forest.
What a world I live in... she thinks. So lonely...so harsh... She sighs, and, not smelling the dogs on the other side of town through the rain, she closes her eyes and falls into a restless sleep.

[Darkfur]

Rusty looked back at Cobalt "Well, i'm a stray. So just trying to make a living. Survive" She replied. "What about you?" Rusty questioned, she was intent to find out more about Cobalt. Considering she didn't know many other strays.

[Atropine]

"Like the rest of us, then," Cobalt mused, sitting on his haunches and curling his tail around his body. "I came here several years ago. I got used to it after a while - the scavenging, the cold..." Cobalt rose again, looked around the desolate and bare warehouse. He would have to find shelter elsewhere - it definitely wouldn't be sufficient for the night, mainly due to the fact that the building looked close to collapse at any minute. "Staying in here wasn't the best idea, I don't think," he grumbled, watching as the scaffolding shook precariously against the wind.

[Silvie]

Lydda kicks her legs about restlessly, and then jumps up and gasps. She realizes it was just a dream, and, sighing, relaxes and sinks back down into a laying position. Feeling cold and wet, she buries her head between her paws miserably, too tired and hungry to look for shelter.
The rain intensifies around her, and a gust of wind sends something wet flying past. Soaked and chilled, Lydda stands again, her legs shaking, and steps forward. She grabs the bone, her own rigid, and moves to the forest, her head down, ears flattened, in cold sadness, and steps into the dry safety of the trees. Sighing in relief, she collapses into the dirt, and falls fast asleep with the chicken bone lying beside her, of no use to her aching belly.

[Darkfur]

"I couldn't agree more" She says to Cobalt. The creaks were loud, and the fact the warehouse could kill them both with a twitch was unnerving. Rusty quickly squeezes out the tiny hole, wondering how she even got inside in the first place. "You coming?" She calls back into the warehouse. Seeing if she should wait for Cobalt.

[Silvie]

A coyote baying in a lonely tone not far off wakens Lydda with a jolt. Startled, rigid, and dripping, she rises, shaking, and looks around the dark forest. She sighs, and looks at the chicken bone.
Useless old thing, she thinks. Lydda ignores it and trots out of the forest, back into the chilling rain. I'll just have to face my fears and find food. Otherwise I'll meet a fate much worse than this, she thinks grimly, sighing again, this time inwardly. She shakes her dripping coat and trots forward, ignoring the house with the dumpsters. She moves around it, quickly sprinting through the main path, and comes to a house whose lights are on. Tilting her head, she remembers the humans, and ignores the house.
Lydda runs forth to the dirt path, and sees the eerie dust road and grass plain beyond the rickety fence. Shivering, she turns and bolts back into the village.
Lydda sprints back to the original house, and sighs once more. Then, she sees a rabbit sleeping at the edge of the trees. Jackpot! she thinks. She creeps up, and springs forward; the rabbit attempts at a startled, awakening leap away but the graceful young dog captures it. Immediately, she kills it and digs into the warm, rich meat, her stomach grumbling and her eyes rolling in the prospect of something to fill her belly. After devouring most of the carcass, she brings a small bone into the warm, dry forest and sets to chewing on it, content for at least something small in her belly and someplace dry to sleep.

[Atropine]

"I suppose," Cobalt said, trotting towards the small crevice which led out of the warehouse. He followed suit, having some difficulty to squeeze through the small gap. However he eventually managed it, and shook his fur free from the dust which had gathered on his pelt. "Where were you thinking then?"

[Darkfur]

It was a lot easier to see Cobalt now. Rusty could see that she was taller than him, only slightly. Cobalts build looks very thick and durable. The two together looks slightly strange, due to Rusty not really looking that heavy-set. Rusty couldn't really tell, his fur was mainly grey except his face. It was quite intriguing, she hadn't seen a breed of dog like this before. "How'd you mean? 'thinking then'" She asked in reply.

(Don't really get the kinda random "What were you thinking then" xD)

[Cerberus]

A small shaggy looking dog trotted along, it looked like a small male around the age of two years. His right eye was a reddish brown, while his left was a blue mist color symbolizing him being blind in that eye.
He sniffed the air, looking around and letting out a yawn. He had been trying to snag a sausage from a garbage can, and ended up loosing track of his old friend.

Lydda raises her head from chewing, noticing that the moon is low in the foggy sky.
Won't be long till sunrise, she thinks. Standing and stretching again, she pushes the rabbit bone aside and steps forth.
The rain had really started to settle down by now, and Lydda could smell around 3-4 other strays not far off. Remembering the fight, she lowers her ears and whimpers a bit, unsure of whether or not she should explore and discover these strange new dogs.

[Atropine]

(Sorry, I wrote it in a confusing way x3 Cobalt was asking Rusty where she was planning on going^^)

"I just assumed you knew where you were going," Cobalt said, squinting at the street lamps his eyes were exposed to. He stalled, catching the scents of the other strays who resided nearby. "Do you know how many others are out there?" he inquired, beginning to slowly cross the narrow cobbled street. Not waiting for an answer, he spotted a large bluey-green industrial waste bin with the lid left carelessly open. An urban fox leapt down and scattered as Cobalt approached. "Dinner, methinks," he muttered, clambering up into the bin of waste with difficulty. The litter crunched under his paws as he rifled through the rubbish, searching for something edible to quench his younger. Eventually, he came across a pizza box containing leftover crusts. It would suffice for now, he thought. Cobalt swallowed down the stale crusts quickly.

[Guest]

Look around. Sniff the air. Smells the flowers; such a good smell. Say "hi" and wait answer

[Darkfur]

Rusty watched Cobalt. "Not really, i've only seen one other stray." She replies, Rusty sits down and watches as Cobalt searches the bin for food, noticing the slight difficulty he has getting into the bin, Rusty surpresses a chuckle in amusment. She wasn't really that hungry, suddenly realising that she couldn't see her old friend. Rusty stood up and looked around.

Lydda (standing not far off from where Rusty and Cobalt are, behind a couple of houses) hears some strange rustling, and crawls forward cautiously. She peers around a house, and sees two dogs; both a dark color. She whimpers a little bit and dashes back behind the house, hoping she wasn't seen; she jumps into an empty box and curls up there, breathing hard, remembering the fight...

[Darkfur]

Rusty perks her ears, she hears a slight whimper. Also the scent of another stray hangs low, being a sighthound Rusty immediately begins to scan the landscape of the empty village. Her teeth slightly showing "Cobalt can you smell another stray?" She questions, hoping that she didn't just smell a dead rat. After pausing and not waiting for an answer she replies "I'm going to go check it out"
Rusty bounds off in the direction the scent came from.
